Curators’ Network

The Foundation for Visual Arts is a co-founding member of the Curators’ Network, a pan-European network of curators and cultural managers representing five non-profit arts organizations in five different countries. In addition to the Foundation, the four other participant institutions are: Hablar en Arte (Spain), the Studio of Young Artists Association (Hungary), the Brukenthal National Museum (Romania), and the Kunsthalle Exnergasse (Austria).

“Connecting to combat isolation,” the Network’s mission is to provide a platform through which collaborative-minded curators, intimately familiar with the local art scene in their home countries and cities, are able to meet to exchange knowledge and experience, ideas and influences.

Embracing a spirit of cross-cultural creative pollination, inspiration, and all-for-one resourcefulness, Network curators host international gatherings in their respective base cities. Curators meet, brainstorm collaborative possibilities, conduct portfolio reviews, lead discussions, and overlap with emergent young artists; and all this within the context of immersing themselves in the bloodstream of a city and art scene.

Five such meetings between November 2011 and March 2013 (in Madrid, Sibiu, Krakow, Budapest, and Vienna) will lead up to an inaugural group exhibition, to be held in Madrid in June 2013. At the same time, the Network looks to grow and become even more diverse, by cultivating ties and partnerships with additional arts organizations across Europe.
